Hello! First time posting, and I need some help. I just bought
uromastyx, did my research and he/she is doing great. Fitting right i
with the family. I have a problem not about the uro, but about th
light. It gets REALLY hot. I have it set up with one of those clam
lights, with a 100 watt bulb. I know that uros need it really hot, bu
how do I keep the light from becoming a fire hazard? I have a six yea
old boy, and I don't want him to hurt himself. I also don't want th
grill lid that the light is sitting on to melt. Any advice would help

A 100 watt bulb with reflector should be set in a porcelain fitting and not
shine on anything closer than about two feet. You should then monitor the
temperature of the stuff it shines on to make sure it doesn't exceed
something like 40-42 degrees (C) to be on the safe side. Anything hotter
may cause burns to most living organisms. And if the animals or people can
touch it, you should protect it with a wire cage. 100 W is a lot of power
and if you use that you must take safety precautions. What if you're away
and something falls on it? your house might burn down.
