Default Wasting Greens (pogona)

Hi. I used to have the same problem, but there was a tip posted a while ago
(can't remember who posted it) that has really helped. With my greens (eg,
dandelion greens), I wash the whole bunch **and dry them carefully**. The
drying is very important. I then tear/chop the whole bunch. I take a big
ziploc bag and line it inside with 3-4 sheets of paper towel, and then put
the chopped greens inside. I squeeze out as much air as possible without
crushing the greens, and the zip the bag shut. Each morning I take out what
I need for feeding, and refrigerate the rest.

If done carefully (and the drying part is crucial), the greens easily last
4-6 days. During hungry periods, my beardie will go through the whole bag
without wasting any.

Hope this helps.

Peter

Yes, not only do I end up throwing away 99% of what goes into the tank
to feed Ecko, but more than 1/2 of what I buy because it goes bad.
He's just not eating greens very well right now. I have to admit that I
got directions for keeping the greens fresher longer from one of the
websites (can't remember which one) and that has helped keep them for
about 7-10 days longer than I was with my other bd.

For veggies I have been just keeping some of what I fix for us for
dinner aside for him. Or I'd be throwing a lot more of those out too.
Fortunately we are big veggie eaters!

I go to the grocery store and hand pick the amount I want of Dandelion Greens, Collard Greens, Mustard Greens, and Turnip Greens. Since they sell them buy the pound (not by the bunch), you can pick out what you need and not have to buy the whole bunch. It works out great!
