Default Kingsnake vs Kingsnakes...how about that? (kingsnake)

For those of you following the "events", here is something interesting.

I just visited Kingsnake, and the "support" must not have been what was
figured. Yesterday the lawsuit was proudly displayed towards the top of the
page. Today it is mysteriously MIA.

Coincidence?

The moderators seem to be slacking off too. There is a direct
referral to fieldherpers.com in one of the threads on the
general discussion forum. And a snipe from another poster
about the dangers of posting said referral. Neither has
been removed!

Jeff must be distracted by something. What could it be?

I do like the fact that we're getting new posters in here
because of all this garbage. Although I could live without
IMBX.

I did notice the link was gone to the silly lawsuit. I have not
noticed the part with the moderators though. I think it is too little
too late. True colors have been shown over and over again in the last
year or so. Like I said on another post, I do enjoy Kingsnake, but it
leaves such a sour taste now for me. I am really curious just how
many people have been folowing this stuff (the lawsuit, this site
here, and so forth)?
I understand there has not been a single person who has come HERE in
support of Kingsnake, but I am very curious as to the people (not
"who", but their thoughts) that have come in their support like the
little press release stated. Was that just a bunch of BS to
intimidate (I bet so) or do these people really exist?

I'm not really in support of kingsnake.com, but I'm not going to avoid
the site just because of the owner having a petty squabble with
another site owner. He might be an asshole, but so what? There's lots
of business owners that are assholes. But then again, I have no
interest in kingsnakes or milksnakes, so kingsnakes.com doesn't matter
to me one way or the other.

Reasons why I hate kingsake.com:

-TERRIBLE site layout (ugly, hard to find what your looking for,
shitty search engine)
-Slow loading gigantic pages (and I'm on 768/768 DSL, I want it fast
damnit)
-Must be registered to post in the forums
-All posts are moderated (to include no foul language and absolutely
no mention of any other "competing" website)
-Searching for a relevant item in the forum archives gives you very
difficult to find results
-It's just a chain site, no site design special features or
uniqueness - there are a whole stack of pethobbyist ugly-ass
slow-loading hard-to-use website.

I could care less about the asshole owner. The site sucks for enough
reasons all by itself to keep me away.

I was not suggesting anyone avoid the site. People will make their
own decisions. Like I stated, I enjoy Kingsnake. On the other hand,
I will never pay the fee to sell snakes like they charge today. I
still frequent the forums and things like that.

Never use the search engine, myself. I just go right to what I want.
As for ugliness, I've sean much, much worse.

Huh. It must be your connection, then. I'm on cable, and no page on
kingsnake.com takes more than 2 seconds to load. How fast is your
computer, and what browser are you using?

Well, 98% of website forums do this, so it's not that unusual. I've
been on a lot of boards all over the internet, and all but a few have
required you to register to post. It's an enforcement tool. If you had
a guest come on the forum spouting profanity and insulting everyone in
sight (yes, it happens even with registered accounts) how are you
going to know who to ban?

Well, no foul language is also standard for 98% of website forums, so
that's not unusual either. They're kind of draconian on mentioning
other sites, yes, but like someone else pointed out, it's a business.
Most other places will also lock or delete blatant advertisements for
other boards or sites.

Now this I'm going to agree with. Their forum system as a whole sucks
ass, and the search feature is downright broken, PLUS it's been that
way for what, a year now? A search returns items from ALL forums. So
if you want to find out about the risks of feeding dart frogs
mealworms, you have to sift through results from every other forum.
And they haven't fixed it in spite of numurous complaints. They're
very unresponsive to suggestons as a whole.

It also means that you can go to the other pethobbist sites and go to
exactly what you're looking for. Uniformity isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Your choice, not saying it's a bad one. I like to look at the
classifieds, which are still better than any other site out there,
IMHO. They also have that huge comprehensive list of herp sites on the
front page, which I like.
