I think I read somewhere here that torts will get UVB rays if they are
in the shade. Is this true?
Also, what about if it is cloudy? I like to give her some natural
rays when possible even though she is basicly indoors.

The uvb does penetrate even through shady areas of the yard. I tested shady areas of the large tort pen with the uvb meter and it got almost as much as the direct sun areas. Not quite as high, but up there.
