If it's "very cold," it's not the snake's doing--what are the temps like in
the cage, and in the room in which the snake is kept? Heat pad/lamp? Lighting? "Not eaten since Dec 10th" shouldn't hurt a healthy king snake one bit; it could be simply trying to brumate and your friend isn't "letting it" by keeping the temps adequately low and the lights off.
