Julie,
I have looked at a few play sand bags from those stores and found Lowe's having the better kind, the others looked like it had small pebbles in it. The Sulcatas have the 50/50 bed a beast and play sand. How do you figure out what 50/50 is, when play sand is heavier and than bed a beast (I am using Eco Earth) and vice versa? Maybe I am not using enough of one thing? The RT's and Boxie I am using Play Sand, Bed a beast and loam which seems to work a little better. The boxies pen dries out the fastest. Maybe I need more bed a beast or moss, someone mentioned powdery kind of moss? I used the long fiber moss and found it tangles in the boxies feet. Just went into the other room to double check what I had in the boxie pen, Guess what??? I have a BIG ant nest again, thought I got rid of them. Any way to keep the ants away? Looks like they are back with a vegnace after I destroyed their first nest and there is several more armies, more than the first time. Thanks again, Ron Ron, don't the stores in CA have playsand? Toys r us, home depot, lowes, walmart, k mart? A 50/50 mix of playsand and bed a beast is a great subsrate. If it's drying out too fast it's probably not deep enough and you need to mist it daily. Every few days turn the dirt and add more water as needed. For your boxie add some spagnum moss (the fine powdery kind ) and that will help keep the extra moisture that is needed for them. They need it a lot more moist than the others do.
