Default Beardie sand NEED Help (pogona)

Hi There
Not sure what the sandy top soil is like in your area but a suggestion my vet gave me was to use the native top soil from out here. He said anywhere sage brush or creosote bushes were growing would be ideal. Apparently its much safer impaction-wise then sand since all the granules are not of uniform size with sharp edges and it also contains trace minerals and bacteria should it get the occasional flick lick. Personally I use carpet from lowes for the most part in my cages but I'm going to give this a run with my uro this month. Best of luck.

Go to Wal-Mart and buy a roll of Duck brand shelfliner, the almost spongy
kind. It's washable, and safer than sand. Easy to change and works out
cheaper in the long run.

Another alternative (depending on the size of your tank) is utility mat carpets. $3.50 each at Walmart, just cut 'em to the proper shape and they do a lovely job. When they get messy, you can scrape the poop off and toss them in the washing machine (though I recommend air drying them) and they're ready to use again. They typically come in navy, dark green, and dark gray...any of which provide a lovely contrast for a bright beardie body. We use them in many of our tanks instead of substrate because they're durable, inexpensive, safe for all herps, and they look so much nicer than paper towels. ;-)
