Default Whinging... (rattlesnake)

Ok. So I applied for 2 summer jobs. One was with the MD DNR
as a seasonal field herpetologist, one was with an organization
in PA that was looking for someone to do Massasauga Rattlesnake
research.

Both have gotten back to me and basically said "Great! We
need you to start in Mid-April!"

Unfortunately, my classes don't end until the end of April!
The DNR already told me that that won't work for them, and
I'm sitting here waiting for the email from PA telling
me the same thing.

If that isn't depressing enough (well, for me -- maybe not
for you) I got info today on a fantastic plant ID class that's
being taught in the Smokey Mtns this summer. It's only 10
days long, counts for 3 credits and I've been told by folks
who went last year that it is absolutely fantastic. And
I would get to camp in the Smokey's during the entire class.

Can I go? No! I'm on the reunion planning committee for
my 10 year college reunion and our reunion is right smack
dab in the middle of the class.

So I can't get a cool job, and I can't take a cool class.

This bites.

If anyone else is available early to mid-april until early
fall and wants a fantastic job in MD or PA, let me know and
I'll send the job info.

That sucks. There's a friend of mine who searches a keeper for one of his
reptile zoos. 'd you like? -of course I know you can't, I can't either
. I hope for you that at least the rattlesnake research group won't bother
your studying and wants you anyway. If this isn't the last year at uni you
can take the plant class the next year. no?

This is my last year - I'll be done in December.

But if my job situation next year allows (assuming I find a job), I may
take it anyway just for fun.

Learning 150 herbaceous plant species in 10 days while living in a
tent in the Smokeys is definitely something I would use my 2 weeks
vacation for. I'm a dork.

Is there any reason you couldn't talk to your professors and attempt to
finish your classes up early?

You'd miss an interesting class that you want to take that may be important
for you to help plan a class reunion...???

So get your priorities straight and remove yourself from the planning
committee. Who cares about a reunion?

My priorities colored that post. I hate the town I was bused to high school
in, and really don't miss anyone from there. The good friends I made in my
home town I keep in touch with via internet. No way would I go out of my
way to attend a reunion in that backbiting little burg.

I feel much the same about my high school. If this were a high school
reunion it would be no contest. I left KS when I was 18 and swore I
would never live there again. I only visit to see my family. I don't
keep in touch with one person that I went to high school with. I think
that may be part of the reason why my college friends are so important
to me. They are my oldest and closest friends (even if we don't see
eachother for years at a time), which is why I won't give up seeing
them in May.

Y'know, after typing that I don't feel so bad about missing the
plant ID class. Yeah, it would be fun, but I can learn plant
ID any old time, and camp whenever. I only get to see my
girlfriends every 10 years.

Hmmm. Thanks for making me take a closer look Cindy!
