Default moon myths

Clark posted:

I didn't google up anything.
A book which mentions a version is Larousse World Mythology Pierre
Grimal ed, Putnam 1965 page 503

The version as described there seems to be late and possibly conflated
with Genesis. Avin is not the Sun God (Tortali) but his _wife_, living
happily in a garden until she voluntarily has sex with the moon god, Ul,
is driven out of the garden and is punished with having to work for food
and with menstruation.

The most "standard" versions are among the various Eskimo tribes and the
Khasi (Northeast India). The Japanese version is not among the standard
Shinto tales of Amaterasu.
