Issues: A Question Of Integrity
And Dawkins himself agrees that Hamilton adopted an organism based
fitness in the 1964 paper. While I am not enamored of the book, the "An
agony in five fits" chapter in _The Extended Phenotype_ goes into how
Hamilton defined inclusive fitness vs. how Dawkins would have wished
Hamilton to define inclusive fitness. Dawkins obviously thinks Hamilton
should have based it on a "gene's eye view", but says that Hamilton did
not in fact do so. Instead Hamilton argued along the lines you have given
above.
