Well, there are some steps missing. You seem to be assuming that

Oro's experiment (showing that adenine can be formed "pre-biotically"

by polymerization of HCN) is somehow related causally to the

central role that ATP has in modern bioenergetics. Causally

related how?

Tom:
There is a lot of adenine. ATP is the main energy source.
The relationship is the adenine.
But beyond that is the
implication that RNA is not for coding at first. It is
for getting ATP on a strand of RNA to help join amino acids
into peptides, etc. That, for me, is the real eye opener idea.
The key ribozyme may be somehow connected to ATP.

Thus genes are not first. Metabolism first (ATP powers all),
and genes, which came later, are just a way to code for
metabolism. It seems so right, so perfect, so logical, so
possible.

This changes everything. Instead of looking for a self replicator,
we look for the ATP/RNA/amino acid connection. Once that energy
is there - then we have power for making proteins, joining nucleotides,
replication, coding, and all the rest.
And it suggests for me, how the sun heat cycle, energy force, was turned
into a chemical energy force.

Whether this line of thinking goes anywhere - who knows?
