Default Mars bunny at the Spirit Gusev site

Did you notice there was a Mars bunny at the Spirit Gusev site as
well. See ..
http://aix1.uottawa.ca/~weinberg/mars/Mars_bunny_Spirit_nav_045.jpg

This bunny was much further away from the lander than the one at the
Opportunity Terra Meridiani site. Its like a ghost that doesn't leave
footprints.

Maybe instead of assuming right off that it is a bunny, I think it
would be more scientific instead to refer to it as "lagomorphus
Spiritus", one of the order lagomorpha from the Greek "lagos"=hare; +
Greek "morph"=shape.

See the Spirit Navigation Camera images for Sol 045, especially

You might want to look at my Mars fossils page ...
http://aix1.uottawa.ca/~weinberg/mars/

Did you notice that NASA published a great press release on the
original Mars bunny?
http://marsrovers.jpl.nasa.gov/spotlight/opportunity/b19_20040304.html
I still think that the Rover rolled over the first bunny despite their
denials and cover up. That thing under the lander doesn't look at all
like our bunny -- unless he is there hiding and quivering in fear.
The whole issue very strange.

Best regards,

Michael

I think this thing is al light reflection fr

I think it is a light reflection, from a mirror or a crystal.
They should have looked at it more closeley , a reflecting object on
mars is unusal. On Earth it could be a drop of water.

Default Mars bunny - stupidity that won't go away

It was debris from the lander, and they didn't run over it, they found it
later beneath the edge of the lander, where it had been blown by the wind.
Get a life, people, or at least learn some real science.

You mean the Opportunity "bunny". The pictures in the link above are from
Spirit and they do not show an entirely different kind of thing.

On a sunny day (5 Mar 2004 21:39:36 -0800) it happened marsfossils@canada.com

The whole bunny think felt to me like 'blowing smoke' to get attention
from 'found life' to 'and that was 4 sure not life'.
Maybe I am getting a bit too sceptical now...
Maybe not.

It looks a like like "bloom," an artifact inherent for very bright objects
using the rover cameras, which don't include anti-blooming features like
some cameras do. You can see the effect often in images including shiny bits
of the rover itself. See http://tinyurl.com/3hn9u for an example. So the
shape of the splotch is less relevant than the fact that there is a very
bright or even reflective object there, proven by it being in two shots.
