Thank you, I speaking form personal observation of the activity. At
the outskirts of a place where I lived, they still had “kolmilar”,
about the last there was I suspect. Not a lot of charcoal was made
there anymore. The area had 7 or 8 circles used for the charcoal
making. I never saw more than two stacks being prepared at any one
time. Not long after that the place was deserted. The stacks looked
nothing like yours above, or those Erik posted.
It was much like this, only where there are two rows one on top of the
other, those I saw were round logs (fairly small diameter – around
10-> 20 cm) about 2 meter long. The top of the stack was fairly flat.
A Yurt looks a bit like the stack I saw, but sides slope in at the
top. The sides were not sealed that I recall – alternately the stack
