Please f****ve the unenlightened, but what physical forces keep a
pitched blade from diving or washing out?

Also, how do variable pitch blades change the pitch on submersion? I
imagined that there would be an additional rotation of the blade and
corresponding rotation of the oarshaft in the oarlock, but I was told
that it is not the case. So how do the features of VPB increase the
effective pitch?
