Default New lap rule question

And if it's Daytona, Talledega, Poccono or Indy, that's nearly 5 miles for
free.

The funniest thing in the NASCAR world would be if Rusty Wallace was finally
going to win a race and he got jobbed on that Ryan Newman rule.

Default New lap rule question

: if a car is about to go down by two laps there is no way in hell that car
: could possibly be the first car a lap down at that point,

not necessarily...think Dega to Daytona near the start of the race or a road
course...many cars have had issues at the start, had to pit once or twice
and be the only car a lap down...

Why is 2.6 miles for free OK, but 5 isn't?

Where's the dividing line?

Well if that happened that car would have to be the only one a lap down and
if that was the case it woundn't matter anyway that car would still be 43rd
so not a big deal.

"> not necessarily...think Dega to Daytona near the start of the race or a
road

But one thing that ya'll are forgetting, is that with the old
rule, you'd be able to go all around and get to the back.
Almost that whole lap.
So the net is, you still only get your lap back, as you were getting
that 9/10ths of a lap back any way.
You've always been able to make up almost a lap when the yellow comes out.

How about a simple solution. When the yellow comes out no one advances
anywhere, period. I realize that is too simple for Nascar to comprehend.

Early in the race, a car has to pit at Daytona or Talledaga... It's a very
possible scenario.
