Default Is it over?

I'm glad to say I did not watch one second of the Home Run Derby, which has
become the Slam Dunk albatross of MLB All-Star festivities, which like all big
all-star games, are being surrounded with a growing number of non-events and
time killers (since, of course, the game no longer can really stand on its own
as a single event.)

I'm assuming Chris Berman said "back back back" about a thousand times, right?
Anothetr reason I'm happy to have missed it.

Perhaps it should be played that way.

This time of year, I'm watching the Tour de France every night anyway.

I hope whoever directed it is out of a job today. I was watching Garret
Anderson hit in the first round, and the cameras didn't follow the flight of
the ball. It's a home-run hitting contest, AND THE CAMERAS DIDN'T FOLLOW THE
FLIGHT OF THE BALL. Anderson's swinging away and you see a view of him from the
pitcher's mound hitting the ball, then you see him standing there watching
where the ball goes. Which we didn't get to see, because the camera didn't
follow the flight of the ball.

If it was an obvious home run, they'd pick it up about halfway through its
flight; if it wasn't a home run, the cameras didn't follow the flight of the
ball. At all. On one non-obvious home run, the camera shot didn't switch away
from home plate until the ball was in the stands.

Unbelievable. It was like watching a college team's video production. The
camera didn't follow the flight of the ball.

Yeah...I noticed that Berman seems to have toned it down *a lot*. There
were only a few of the nicknames, and the decibel level was way down; he
saved the over-the-top back-back-back's for the biggest/longest of the
homers. Of course, he couldn't stand it and threw in a few allusions to
homers reaching Wisconsin, but he was *much* better than in previous
years.

I guess I didn't make myself clear, but the cameras didn't follow the flight of
the ball. It's just so mind-bending that someone would televise a home-run
derby in which the cameras didn't follow the flight of the ball, so I wanted to
make sure I made that point clearly. Otherwise, no one would believe it.

The cameras didn't follow the flight of the ball.
