My goodness, I didn't watch, but what the hell happened? 119-114?
Triple overtime. 13 players in double figures. Wake only played 7
players all game? That's unbelievable.

Donnie, anyone else who watched/was there -- any comments?

It didn't ****.

Easily one of the ten best games I've ever seen - and I
came to that conclusion before it was clear we were gonna
win. I was thoroughly exhausted at the end....and I was on
my couch for most of it.

Hell, I would escalate it immediately to #3 behind NCSU-MD
and DUKE-UK...if it weren't for both teams doing their
best Shaq-at-the-line imitations in the overtimes (both
teams were 3-for-11 in the OTs until Eric Williams hit
both to put it away*) and if the officiating (which had
been good & consistent all game long) hadn't gone
absurdly and bafflingly inconsistent in the last 2 minutes
of regulation and all through the ots.

(*Yes, you read that correctly - Eric Williams was still
in the game at the end of 3 ots. Hallelujah!)

I'm proud of my team. Without Danelius and going down
19-8 early they could have easily given up. Losing Justin
Gray on a ticky-tack before the end of regulation and
Chris Paul on a flat-out bad call in the second(?) ot
gave further opportunities to give up. As did falling
behind by 4 quick in the 3rd ot after only scoring 2
in the second ot. No dice.

Kudos to Carolina too. Maybe I was the only one who
had doubts left...but they *are* a lot better than
last year.

Simply a well-played, hard-fought, utterly *classic* basketball
game. That fortunately was won by the good guys. I feel
for the UNC fans (and I don't say *that* often) - it's a
cliche but it really is a shame anyone had to lose this one.

But there are simply no sweeter words in all of college
basketball than: "No one on the UNC roster has ever
beaten Wake Forest".

Great game, one of the best I've ever seen. I livein Colorado and have
season tickets to the Buffs, but they play on a different planet than UNC
and Wake.

By the way, Charlie, the wrong team won ;-)...

Well, I was there, and believe me, I'm definitely exhausted.

I figured from what we saw that it was quite likely whichever
team lost would have some claim to having the refs take this
one away. It did seem incredibly baffling to me how charge/blocks
were called as well as how little crap got called on rebounds and
big pushes got left alone. *shrug* But I'm not going to say
that's why UNC lost, that's for *damned* sure...

In a game *that* long you'd have to truly have biased refs (which
I don't think is the case) for the good/bad ratio to end up even
for both teams.

That's the biggest reason we lost. He's a really good ball
player, but we should have been able to get him in worse foul
trouble than he was in. The fact that May fouled out and
Eric Williams didn't was one of the many things that could
have swung that game the other way.

Well, I didn't think the early lead was a very big factor,
personally. Wake was playing well, they just didn't get
things flowing for a bit. I never felt like we had "control" of anything early.

Bah, both should have fouled out earlier on pushoffs while
dribbling the ball.


Time will tell, but it just feels to me like UNC and Wake both
have legit shots at winning the ACC this year. It should be fun.

Noel played very well for his first game back, but he certainly has
room to improve, too. Can't wait to see that!

the game where I thought "man, Charlie is going to be hating life
after this game" because we were going to the free throw line up
a bucket with two shots. Only problem was we couldn't put it away.


Not true. Jesse Holley has.

I'm dissappointed as heck, but I feel pleased at the same time. I
feel like we *could* improve more than Wake over the course of
this season (not that we will, but we could...though Daneluis
returning could even that back up) and I feel like Wake
is a really good team. So we're right there. Bring on the rest of
the season!

Yeah, it was him that choked on the free throw line three out of four
times in the first OT and two for two in the second OT to ice the game.

BTW, if the announcers are to be trusted, this is the first time
UNC has *ever* scored 100 and lost.
