Tabloid: Kobe offered accuser $5M to settle

Now Kobe Bryant is trying to pay off his alleged victim $5 million,
possibly more, according to the National Enquirer.
Team Kobe, a phalanx of Bryant's attorneys, is trying to avert a trial
for **** on a couple of fronts.
According to the tabloid, top-secret negotiations were conducted twice
recently with the NBA superstar and his lawyers along with
investigators and an attorney for the 19-year-old college student, who
alleged that he ****d her on June 30 in his Colorado hotel room.
Bryant and his legal team allegedly made two middle-of-the-night
flights by private jet between California and Colorado.
"If the woman agrees not to cooperate further, the district attorney,
in essence, will have no case against Kobe," said an unnamed source
quoted in the Enquirer.
"It would be impossible for the D.A. to get a **** conviction if the
victim changes her mind or her story about the alleged assault.
Without the woman, there is no case," the source added.
"It's the people of Colorado vs. the accused, not the victim versus
the accused," said Flannigan.
Depending on the cir***stances, prosecutors may also issue subpoenas
to compel reluctant witnesses or victims to testify in court.
"You're usually looking at what other evidence exists and the nature
of the case and type of victim," said Flannigan. "You want to be
respectful of the victim and not to traumatize them."
Attorneys have to walk a fine line, lest Team Kobe be accused of
bribing the witness. Kobe can't pay her not to testify against him -
that's a felony.
And the woman's attorney has to make sure that she doesn't get accused
of filing a false police report. To maintain legal protocol, no one
involved in the case, except her legal representatives, may talk with
her.
At the same time, Kobe's attorneys are trying to get the charges
reduced, possibly to third-degree assault or false imprisonment.
"The defense wants to shelter Kobe from the charge of **** and
possible conviction that would brand him as a *** offender for life,"
a source close to Bryant told the Enquirer.
