Yet another reason why I LOVE college basketball...
CLEAR-CUT NATIONAL CHAMPIONS!!!!! The BCS just exploded for the third
time in four years, with the previous two times being rectified by the
consensus #1 laying the smackdown on the BCS #2 (although I think Miami
would have given OU a huge run for its money in the 2001 Orange Bowl (as
in after the 2000 season)). No such rectification will happen with this
one. It's possible for the consensus human-poll #1 to NOT go to the
Sugar Bowl. That team then goes on to lay the smackdown on any team in
its way to secure the #1 ranking in the AP poll, but CANNOT receive the
same ranking in the coaches' poll (because THEY DIDN'T PLAY IN THE
NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME!!!!!!). Thus, what'll result is what the
founders of the BCS tried to prevent: a SPLIT national championship,
which has not happened since the season before the implementation of the
BCS. Talk about one royally screwed-up system.
