Default Best: 1 year at $938K?

The reason why this deal is being held up is the Celtics
are offering Best 1 year at $938K--the minimum.
This for a guy who would probably be the starting PG.

Orlando just signed Lue for $3.15M/2 years-- a much better deal for at least
a comparable (?) player.
I prefer Best--at least off his Indiana form.

It shows why the Celtics ****.
They raise ticket prices and pinch pennies.

I'd rather have Best than stringbean Waltuh.
Hope he goes to Indiana.

I seriously doubt he would start. Banks should be the starter with Best helping
him learn the NBA game, but both probably playing about the same amount of
minutes

Lue is also 5 years younger than Best and conceivably has more "upside". But
you are correct in that they are basically the same player.

I don't think by offering the minimum for a 8 year veteran the Celtics are
being cheap. I'm glad that it's about time someone showed some financial
restraint instead of overpaying to get someone who is going to be a backup
most likely.

If they do not sign Best, it's not the end of the world, there will most
likely be some attractive free agents towards the time that camp comes
around.

Agreed. It's possible that Best is only worth the 8-year minimum.
What did he accomplish in Miami last year, after all?

I predict a very interesting camp and pre-season.

I don't think Best is hearing anything more than the minimum from any of the
teams showing interest in him. Its interesting to see that they are giving
Kenny Anderson another look too. They might up their offer for Best if
another team offers a little more and they are able to trade away Sundov and
Bremer for draft picks. I know O'B wants Anderson back. He likes going with
players he's coached before. Doesn't like newbies.

Lue is a handicap at the D end - he gets posted by guards of modest size.
Best is a better rounded player - or was.

Yes, but they're comparing Lue to Best due to the fact that Lue and Best are
similar, yet Lue signed for more than what Best was offered.

Unless the Celtics improve significantly, they are going to be left in the
dust in the East. And could miss the playoffs.

breaking the bank over.
