Bartolo Colon makes 8M+ .
Fossum and Suppan's combined salary is under 1 M.
One loss at Colon's hand is no reason to sign him.

Maybe you should "have". No English courses in the Boston school system?

Dave took a course in parody instead.

To begin.. To begin... How to start? I'm hungry. I should get coffee. Coffee would help me think. Maybe I should write something first, then reward myself with coffee. Coffee and a muffin. So I need to establish the themes. Maybe a banana nut. That's a good muffin.

There was never a straight up Colon for Fossum offer.

i suggested a month ago in here that the colon for fossum, hillenbrand or
sanchez trade now looks like it would have been a good one for the sox (since
fossum will never be anything and hilly and sanchez went anyway, and even a sub
par year for colon had produced 13 wins at the time). I was trashed for the
suggestion. A few posts suggested that colon was overrated and merely was an
average pitcher who had a career year last year. Bah. Some believe he is still
really fat (yeah, that hurt tiant and those 7 career years he had for us).
8 complete games, three in a row. Now looks like he might win 17 games. Bah.
Yeah, fossum and suppan cost $1 mil to colon's 8.
And of course, how many wins and complete games to those two have combined?
We'd be in first place right now.

Anyone who contributes sooooo much to the group deserves a little slack
for a boo boo. I am a HUGE RS fan and have been since 75', but I can't
stomach digging up info on "A" prospects or the minor leagues.. Dave
comes through BIG on this stuff. I truly appreciate Mr. Bismo's
positive take on our odyssey. He provides great information and steers
clear of the emotional BS. That is hard to do for a Red Sox fan. It is
by definition an emotional roller coaster and Dave is pretty steady.
Hang in there Dave. -then again you don't need my approval.

The error has alot to do with how you speak, how you write and how your
brain works. In my area (AZ), that use of "have" sounds more like "of"
when it is spoken. Further, I think Dave (quick guess) and alot of
peoples writing ability is connected rather closely to the their verbal
skills. I think I learned to write (earlier than most kids) from speech
patterns and visual memory as opposed to letters/ building block method.
It is a totally unsubstantiated theory.. I just think people write
differently and I trip on issues like this "of/have". I also
(occasionally) forget simple words. It is like I don't have the ability
to recreate the word from the basic elements. Instead I rely on the
sound of the word tenuously connected to the visual memory of what the
word should look like. Ever had a crazy font make you question the
spelling of a word? Like I said- this is my whacky theory to explain my
writing farts. I'm sure you **** folks are going to find numerous
mistakes in my long winded post. Go nuts.

At some point, all you failed English teachers are going to have get a
thicker skin in regard to grammar mistakes. Could you understand what
was meant? Then move along. Pulling a thread off topic because of
grammar is a travesty -in my opinion (and I have just contributed to
it!) You people with your red pens need a dog to kick. The world/
internet is a big place. Just be thankful that the predominate language
on the net is English or you would be SOL. I am continuously blown away
by my immigrant friends at work and on the net who are required to use
English to survive. If I was in the same situation, I would likely fail
miserably. I have worked my whole life on ONE language and that still
needs work. I am just happy that the net emphasis is on reading and
writing. I hope the broadband transformation does not ruin this
progress. If the internet turns into Boob Tube II, then it will have
failed miserably to live up to it's potential.

RM

p.s. What was I writing about again? Dave kicks ass. Decent tangent
though..

Yes but they went away for Kim, SS and Suppan. I wouldn't say that's too bad
considering they still have Fossum.

He is overrated, is an above average pitcher and did have a career year.
Despite the CG, his ERA is an unspectacular 3.83.

Nothing happens in a vaccuum. You pay Colon $8M, you don't have Walker, Millar
and Mueller on your squad. Pick your poison.

So Colon makes a 6 game difference? Pretty impressive for a guy that has made
31 starts. Especially considering they most likely wouldn't have the offense
they do now with Colon's salary.

There are other free agent pitchers available besides Colon. But you don't
think we need to get another starting pitcher in the off-season? Fossum is
probably destined for the bullpen. I think we'd have to pick up the option
for Suppan next year and I don't expect him to be better than an average
pitcher. Burkett will likely be gone which will open up a spot in the
rotation. Sure you could stick Kim there, but also consider that the
contracts of Pedro and Lowe end after 2004.

We need at least one more starter.
