Battling Butler
Gentleman Jim
Killer's Kiss
The Set-Up

I'd rather watch any of these than Raging Bore, but then I'm a
crank.

Brian

(I liked GoNY though.)

I'm a fan of this sub-genre. Here are mine, in chronological order:

Battling Butler (1926)
The Patent Leather Kid (1927)
Winner Take All (1933)
Kid Galahad (1937)
Golden Boy (1939)
They Made Me a Criminal (1939)
City for Conquest (1941)
Body and Soul (1947)
Champion (1948)
The Set Up (1949)
Somebody Up there Likes Me (1957)
Requiem for a Heavyweight (1962)
Rocky (1976)
Raging Bull (1980)

Special Mention: Hard Times (1975, as it is not exactly a boxing movie in
the traditional sense)

Rocky IV ("I must break you")

And, to a certain extent...

I *was* wondering why you left it off. Boxing movies are not my favorite
sub-genre generally speaking but I love that one. Bogart at the end of his
career and his life and ever more compelling, plus the story doesn't like
boxing anymore than I do.

Anybody here consider adding _Here Comes Mr. Jordan_ to his list?

OK Steppen,

how can you rate two unseen films as the 'best' boxing movies? Anyways, I
am ashamed of everybody on this list for failing to mention Mickey Rourke's
"Homeboy".
