What does everyone think about the Flames going after a player like
Straka.

I was reading on sportsnet today, the the Penguins may be looking to
cut their payroll and Straka has been rumoured to be on the trading
block.

For the Flames, all they really need to do is come up with the $4
million dollars that he makes, they wouldn't really have to give up
and of their current stars.

He is too costly. I wouldn't mind seeing him in a Flames uniform but
Straka won't become a Flame anytime soon. You actually would have to
give up some of the current stars so you can afford him.

What is his work ethic like though?

Well, he obviously doesn't give up & sulk when he finds himself on a
hopeless losing team. That's gotta be a plus.

However, I just don't see the Flames finding another $4m to pay him, or
Pittsburgh accepting anything less than a blue-chip prospect in return.
And how many of those do we have to offer them?

Much as I'd love to see that happen ( he's a distant relative of
mine), I don't think Mario would let him go. There was a time when
Martin was in Ottawa that the Flames could have had him for a song,
but piss poor management botched that. Also, one of the conditions
for Mario's un-retirement was for the Pens to reaquire Martin. He is a
helluva player, great playmaker, good scorer, pretty darn go on team
defence as well. He is getting a tad long in the tooth though and he
has had a fair number of injuries. Probably too expensive for the
Flames though. Sigh :-(

That is the key, Pittsburgh is looking at dumping salary, so if
required the Flames could really take advantage of this situaton. Of
course they may losea young player or two in the process, but the
only thing standing in their way is where the Flames are going to come
up with the extra couplemillion dollars to pay his salary.

pucks just to be rid of the salary.

If it were that simple, he'd be a Ranger by now. Sather has more used
pucks than he knows what to do with.

I love Straka the player and he can be an immediate impact.
However, I think the owners hate his $4M salary.

Well, bag of used pucks, give or take a Mike Commodore. :-)
I think you are underestimating the hard line the owners in general
have taken against salaries this year. I really don't think it would
take much to get Straka if you are willing to eat the whole salary.
