Default Kasay's kicking gaff? It wouldn't have mattered anyways

Ok, right now, John Kasay kicking the ball out of bounds is the main
talk of this great Super Bowl. But let's get kind of real guys. That kick
gave the Pats the ball at their 40 yard line. But would it have made that
much difference if the Pats had gotten the ball at their 25-35 yard line?
The reason I ask this is because the Panthers DB's couldn't handle the Pats
WR's practically the entire game. And with 1:04 left, and Brady at the helm
in that offense, and in that position, you just knew that he was gonna get
his team into scoring position anyways. If you want to blame someone, blame
the Panthers defense.

Pats

helm

blame

Or blame em both. It definitely did not help the chances to just give the
Pats offense an extra 15-25 yards.

Not only that, but they were kicking it to Bethel Johnson all game. I had a
feeling that he was one missed tackle away from a big return. It's possible
he could have set them up for a TD rather than a FG.

Um, "15-25" yards is a bit of an exaggeration... well 15 isn't, but 25 is...
In all probability, it gave the Pats 10-12 yards... costly yes, but the Pats
moved the ball well enough that I doubt it made much of a difference...

Well, looks like Peter King kinda agrees... here's an excerpt from his
weekly MMQB:
Goat of the Week

Carolina K John Kasay. By booting the last kickoff of the season out of
bounds and allowing the Pats to take possession at their own 40, Kasay made
it possible for New England to drive only 37 yards before setting up for
Vinatieri's winning field goal. The Pats could well have won without the
assist, but it still was inexcusable.

And who's to say Bethel Johnson wouldn't have returned an in-bounds kick
beyond the 40?

Exactly...he was averaging 20 per return with a long of 29. Kasay doesn't
kick inside the 10 very often, so most likely the Pats would have started
on the 30...Ten yards wasn't gonna make a difference when the Panther D was
out of gas.

You happen to forget that it would have run some time off the clock.
That would have made a huge difference.
