Default Walter Payton and Steriods

I was reading an article in this month's Playboy (Yes I read the
articles), and they had this whole expose on the guy who was supplying
steriods to Bonds. They mentioned that Lyle Alzedo died of a brain
clot related to steriods.
So it got me thinking on how strong Walter was. Walter Payton is my
all time favorite player. But he did die of a rare liver disease. Is
it possible its related to steriods? Its never been brought up
before, but I was curious if anyone was knowledgable about this.
Walter is my favorite player, but I was just curious about this
thought.

Walter was strong but tiny. I think that's the answer to your question.

There is no known medical link between steroid use and the
kind of brain tumor that Lyle Alzedo had. Lyle concluded that
steroids caused his cancer simply because he had no other
explanation for it.

Somehow I have trouble visualizing that. I suppose if one really
wanted to chase that down, one could research the type of liver
disfunction and see if there's a link to steroid use. But Peyton was
never bulked up the way, say, Barry Sanders (legs) was, was he?

Nahh, I don't buy it.

Payton died of sclerosing cholangitis and a related bile duct cancer.
Neither has any relation to steroids, they are thought to have a genetic
etiology. You should be ashamed of yourselves for suggesting such a thing.

I agree. This is the kind of comment I'd expect from a Packers fan, not a
Bears fan. Further, a Bears fan ought to know how to spell the name of our
greatest player ever. Disgraceful.

Default Walter Payton and Steriods ... NOT

Anyone who ever saw the video of Walter training would understand the power
in his legs.
If you ever ran up Payton's Hill even once, and then think about doing that
over and over again...

If you haven't seen it... you should... it doesn't quite look the same
anymore because there is now
a little golf course up on top of the hill and the Arlington Heights Park
District has done some landscaping,
but the hill is still the hill.
