My brother lives in Cincinnatti and claims to be hearing (from the local
buzz) that Hendry is shopping for Aaron Boone pretty heavily. Furthermore,
it looks like Cincy is more interested in unloading Griffey. The talk is a
package deal with cash, prospects, and the whole nine yards. Possible Boone
+ Griffey deal for a list of prosepects, etc.

Personally, I have dogged Junior for being a prima donna for as long as I
can remember. If the rumor is valid, it looks like Hendry is plugging CF
with Jr. and then making the transition of CF to LF depending on Cory's
progress. Alou moves out in the next one to two years.

I really like Boone and would love to see him in pin stripes but I think
that the Cubs would have to give up far too much to get Jr. in the deal.

Can anyone validate this rumor?

The idea of Jr. with the Cubs I like, but someone posted the other day that
while Griffey took a supposed "hometown discount" for the Reds, he's owed an
unbelieveable amount of deferred money. I have no idea if that is the case.
Two solid prospects, and the Cubs picking up Griffey's salary would be all that
I would be willing to give up for this deal. I've never been that excited
about Boone, but there aren't a lot of better 3B options out there.

I'd pull the trigger on this deal, I like it.

The cubs could easily get Griffey. Griffey for Phil Nevin was virtually
signed, sealed and delivered last winter until Nevin vetoed it. With 4 solid
outfielders, Bowden would love to use Griffey's salary to get pitching.

As for Boone, the Reds won't part with him unless the infield situation is
solidified. Branyan can play third, but the Reds already lead the majors in
strikeouts without Branyan in the lineup. Larson and Lopez will get a few
more chances to prove they can play in the big leagues, but until one or
both of them step up, the Reds are a worse team without Boone even if they
do get pitching in return.

That being said, in 11 years as GM Bowden has been to the post season just
once, so maybe you could steal Boone away if you play your cards right.

I just hesitate when it comes to JR's injury history with CINCY. No one
needs a star that rides the pine.

Also, JR's work ethic is pathetic. He rarely hustles or does any serious
pre-game workout. Contrast with Sosa as he is always stretching, doing
sprints, etc. When's the last time anyone remembers Sammy pulling a
hamstring?

I just don't want Sosa learning bad habits from the kid.

It is a dream outfield, though, isn't it? Assuming everyone is
contributing. I think that Chicago could revive his career as JR would be
surrounded by other marquee players. That was similar to JR's Seattle days
when he wasn't the only draw in town. I just don't want to sell the Farm to
get him.

Actually, the Reds would trade Junior to anyone willing to pay his contract for
a warm bucket of spit.

So we may have to throw in the warm bucket of spit along with Harris and
Alfonseca.

Well if this is going to happen it will happen soon. ESPN just reported
from the Triple-A All Star game that Brandon Larson will be joining the Reds
tomorrow. So we will have to see what happens in the next couple of days!

tick tick tick tick tick....The time is running out. Cubs gotta make a move
here fast.
