More Games?
A little history lesson:
In the old days of college football, teams would play 2,3, even 4 games a
week. The big teams would "barnstorm" around the country playing as many
games as they could. In the 20's, the NCAA was getting concerned that
college football was overshadowing academics, and so they limited games to
one a week. That is the only reason we only play one game a week in
college, and the pros followed suit (mainly 'cos the pros grew out of
coal-miner leagues that played on their one day off--Sunday!).
That's a bit of an aside, but it would be interesting to have more games to
the schedule. 18 games is almost twice the number they play in college. If
you include playoffs and the super bowl, the super bowl winner would have to
play 22 games a season (and that's if they don't expand the playoffs). Wow!
I don't know how the players would feel about it. I think they'd also have
to look at ether expanding the roster or changing the injured reserve rules
to handle the increase in fatigue and injury.
I'm all for it! The preseason ****s. It especially ****s to the season
ticket holders who have to pay full price for those worthless games.
Thanks,
Mike
