Please replace Wickman! I'm not just saying this because of blowing the
save last night against the Yankees. He has consistently been 'off' this
year. In nearly every game I've watched that he has played in, he has
struggled with his control and has allowed at least one baserunner in each
inning he has pitched. Only good defense and 'some' timely pitching (i.e.
strikeouts) has allowed him to come out of the inning unscathed. In my
humble opinion, he was among the least deserving of the Indians to make the
All-Star team (though at the time, none of the Indians were consistent
enough and stood out enough to really make the team) and should have been
replaced by Bob Howry, who I think would be an excellent closer. Wickman
should be placed on the trade block, there are several teams that would
probably like to pick him up, regardless of his troubles this year.

Respectfully disagree, the guy is tied for second in saves. Help me
understand what more can you ask from a closer?

Yeah, Wickman always struck me as a guy who might give up a run or two.
It seems to me that 85, 90 percent of the time he gets the job done.
He's been pretty solid this year; he just had a bad night last night

Last night was Sand Wedgie's fault not Wickman.
Time for a new managing book.

I agree. And I hope Wedge learns this year, because he could have a shot
next year when the WhiteSox don't get off to a fantastic start. Wickman is
getting it done no matter how "ugly". Once or twice could be luck, but not
29 saves worth. At the same time he isn't Gagne (maybe arm troubles will
make them similar) who could dominate batters and put a long string of saves
together without ever blowing one. Three nights in a row against a tough
Yankee batting order and he will throw a hittable strike. I'd have liked
Wedge to bring in Howry for the third one and have Saerbeck ready for Giambi

When you pick up the paper today check and see how many saves Wickman
has. Please let me know who has more saves in the American League this
year. If you can ive got 2 free tickets waiting for you at Gate A.

i agree we do need a new closer.Wickman looks like he has no confidence
and creates a bad self fullfilling proficey.Wickman is all washed up
they had a chance of a sweep with the yankees but bob blew it with two
homers that won the game for the yanks.Honestly to put a long story
short in my opinion he should be put back in the minors.

So, what you're saying is that he's not good enough to be a major league
pitcher? 32 teams X 6 (at least) relievers per team = 192 relievers in
baseball. There are 192 relief pitchers better than the AL saves leader? Or
is there someone pitching in Akron or Buffalo who is better than Wickman?
Use your head.

Outside of the game in April against the White Sox and the game against
the Yankees Wck's ERA is 1.85.
