IMO, SRT's peak was in 1998 and it's over now.

1998 had the 2 centuries against Australia.

1999 had the Chennai 136 & the 116 at Melbourne
(+ the highest score of his career - the 200 vs NZ)

2000 had the 97 against RSA
(+ the 2nd highest score of his career 200 vs Zim)

2001 had the 100 in Chennai against Australia & 155 vs RSA at
Bloemfontein

2002 has his matchwinning 100 at POS & the matchwinning 193 at Leeds
& the match saving 150+ in Calcutta against WI.

He probably has played most of his better innings post 1998.

Ye of little faith! I think he will produce his finest knocks yet.
Starting with Australia later this year. He may slide down from his 58+
average, but I think you'll some huge series-shaping knocks. If the bowling
can do better than what they have over the last year or two (or if they
repeat the NZ performance outside of NZ), he will have those knocks be quite
memorable.

BTW, nice to see that Kambli is at least saying the right things. Seems to
have a positive attitude, and I hope he fights himself back into contention
over the next year or two. He certainly has shown that he can play the long
innings, and if he can indeed become better (not great) against the short
pitched delivery, he will have some 3-5 years of service to render India.

His positive attitude is appreciated.
All said and done, he didnt do anything worthy of note to warrant the
selectors attention with his stint with Boland. If he thinks that the Irani
Trophy alone will dictate what his fate would be then I should say...there
are other forces at work here.

Poor Badani et al...I guess the India A tour might turn out to be a farce
after all. -k
