Cuban not over elbow incident

DALLAS - Mavericks owner Mark Cuban isn't done with Karl Malone.

Lakers coach Phil Jackson received a technical foul after Malone
elbowed Steve Nash in Los Angeles' win over the Mavs on Thursday.
Jackson told a Los Angeles newspaper he protested the offensive foul
call on Malone because the league needs to do a better job of
protecting rebounders.

Jackson also alluded to a former rule that awarded two shots for any
backcourt foul.

"I agree with Phil," Cuban said. "Steve could have and possibly should
have gotten a foul for raking Karl after he got the rebound. And I
would love to see a reinstatement of the backcourt foul rule; it would
speed up the game and protect rebounders."

But Cuban said protecting rebounders and Malone's elbow aren't
related. Malone was suspended for one game because of the incident.

"What Malone did was malicious and intentional, and just one more
incident in a long line," Cuban said. "And, if Phil truly cares about
protecting players from getting raked across the arms, he is in the
perfect position to change the trend since Malone probably uses the
tactic more than anyone else in the NBA."

Does it really surprise anyone with Karl Malone wanting to win a
championship before he retires? Remember all the talk about the Bulls-Jazz
Finals Series when they all blamed John Stockton and Malone for playing
dirty.

Hmmm and perhaps Rodman was just misunderstood? When Malone and Rodman were
going at each other it looked like they were more interested in hyping some
WCW "rivalry" rather than playing basketball.

To be honest, I like Karl Malone, and I think he is a great player, but he
acts that way when calls don't go his way.
