Denver needs to start intercepting
One has to wonder if the defenses that depend heavily on turnovers have
players that deviate from the scheme for glory (freelancing) rather than
sticking to their assignment. Players like this will often be caught out
of position for a big play by the opposing offense. Like Favre with the
last Packers TD in the '98 playoff game against SF (though they lost),
it's hard to yell at a guy for not doing what he's told if a big play is
the result....and eventually you have a guy that thinks he's smarter than
the plan, and that's hard to unlearn in a game or two.
It isn't just INTs I'm alluding to either. I often see guys going to strip
the ball while the ball carrier gains an extra few yards, breaks what would
have been a sure tackle, and so on.
