Brent Johnson?
Yeah, I saw that, too. If Salo keeps up his play, either the Oilers
won't want to give him up (to keep the playoff hopes alive) or his value
will go up enough to make it worthwhile trading him.
I don't see the Oilers picking up Johnson UNTIL they trade Salo, though,
so they don't have both salaries on the books at the same time. I don't
know if Conklin would clear waivers or not, but he's on a one-way
contract so he gets paid the same whether he plays in the NHL or in the
AHL anyway.
It would be an "OK" deal if the Oilers can get some value for Salo,
although I'm curious to see what Johnson's contract is like (salary this
year, next year, how many years left, etc.) as it might be hard to
unload him later if he doesn't do that well. Don't want to get stuck
with a big long contract, esp. if there's no hockey next year.
