Toddy says, "I was disappointed to leave Edmonton, but I'm proud to be a
Blue Jacket"

Derian says, "I was disappointed to leave Dallas, but I'm proud to be a Red
Wing"

Translated: "Those fuckers wouldn't pay me what I wanted, but these idiots
would".

First of all Dallas never offered Hatcher a contract. They basically gave
him the high hat.
Kind of the same with Marchant. Lowe didn't really want him back.

Management did what they had to do. There is no way they could afford Kariya
alone at $10 million, he's just not worth it.

I highly doubt that to be a true statement. KL would certainly have wanted
to have toddy back - but in a frugal (er, is that small ??) market, the
probability of that happening bordered on zero. Toddy himself said it well
in an interview post Jacket signing ....... and that was "Edmonton has gone
the way of younger, CHEAPER players ... and that is the way it will have to
be in franchises like Edmonton unless SOMETHING CHANGES in 2004 cba". Toddy
has it figured out, all right. Frankly, the NHL offers a more competitive
game amongst owners, agents, & GM's than it does with player product on the
ice. It's a shame. The off_season was probably more entrenched in Toddy's
mind during the playoffs than was keeping Mike Modano in check.

That what I said. KL didn't really want him back.

Sure he "wanted" him back

Probably wanted Weight back too, and prabably wanted to sign Leech.

But in reality KL didn't want him back.

After yesterday, there is no question.

along with being VASTLY VASTLY over-rated....Paul Kariya is a money-grubbing

PUNK.

He is what is wrong with the NHL, I hope he enjoys his 2 years off.

i dont know if hes VASTLY overrated, but he was most defenitly not anywhere
CLOSE to being worth the 8-10 million he was making over the past few years.
i view him as a 5-6 million man at the MOST.

First of all, Rhett, for someone who always signs his posts with
"peace", you sure have a belligerent way of phrasing your views. Chill
out, eh? No need to call people names.

Second of all, Marchant wasn't making MILLIONS. He was making 1.5
million, singular, which is right around the league average. He
DOUBLED his salary by signing with Columbus. For him and his family,
it made sense. As I pointed out, it's a BUSINESS. Even with that, the
guy stayed here for 10 years and gave a lot to this city. He gave an
interview yesterday where he genuinely seemed sad to be leaving--he
just felt he had to do what was best for his family. Why would you
trash him the minute he leaves?

Third of all, if the extra million won't, as you put it, "make or break
him", then why are you calling him a bum for being so concerned about
money? Obviously it makes a difference for him. Maybe he has 5 cars
and 3 cabins, but then again maybe he just wants to get his family
financially set for a little longer.

In any case, I don't see why he's a pathetic loser just because he
signed for a little more money somewhere else. Agree or disagree--I
don't care.
