I have no doubt in my mind after watching the game that the Oilers
wouldn't have had to try to overcome a deficit if they were playing on
Rexall ice. That puck was bouncing when it wasn't stopping on a dime
because of the snow on the ice and the cold- it was perfect for the Habs and
their shit-ass NZT. It was kinda funny watching the overhead cam shots
because you could see how the Habs were trying to force the puck-carrier to
one side to create turnovers. Unfortunately, Brewer ended up being the
culprit on one such play that resulted in Zednik's eventual game-winner.
One other thing: as much as the old-timers have lost their skating legs over
the years, that game definitely SEEMED to go faster than most in the current
NHL since it was the first game I've watched outside of the All-star games
where there was no clutch-and-grab garbage happening. It just shows how the
game has deteriorated over the past decade when old-timer legends can play a
more interesting game to watch then the current league.

The one thing that hit me yesterday (and I'm not entirely sure why) is that
if the league reduced the number of skaters on the ice per team to 4, you
would inevitably increase the number of scoring chances. It seems like an
obvious solution to the slower pace of today's game.

With the increased space on the ice, the trap would be next to useless.

employ that same system and it's boring fans to death all across North
America. Do you even know what the trap is? Did you watch the game? Of
COURSE the Habs played on the same ice- if you understood my post, you'd see
that I said it was probably the reason they won last night since it helped
them with their strategy.

Man, are people here retarded? I said the ICE is the *reason* the Habs
had an easier time last night since the NZT is designed to slow games down
by killing rushes through the neutral zone, moron. The fact, therefore,
that the ice was causing the puck to bounce and/or stop on a dime was
PERFECT for the Habs when they used the trap since it made it difficult for
the Oilers to get any sort of consistent offensive flow going, especially on
dump-and-chases. I'm not taking away credit from the Habs since they played
their gameplan well, but it would have been a different story if the game
was played at Rexall simply because of the physics on a warmer ice surface.
Christ, WATCH the ****ing game before you type so that you don't look like
an ass like R Green just did.

I for one get what you're saying ragnarok. I think there is SOME TRUTH to
that that the slow ice may have helped with the slow Neutral zone trap
system that the habs use. The slow ice ,which causes bouncy uncontrollable
pucks, will prevent oilers from generating speed to break through the hab's
trap. For the habs offense on the other hand, since they dont relie on speed
and that the oilers doesnt play the trap, it did not pose AS BIG as a
problem.

Thats a good idea. By reducing the on ice players to 4, the quality of the
play will improve as well. Teams wont have as many players, so some of the
fourth line forwards could be eliminated.

Oilers used to be the best team in the league 4 on 4...Then they changed the
rule for coincidental penalties to continue 5 on 5.....I think 4 on 4 is a
great idea...It would help the budgets as four fewer players would be needed
on each roster for a league saving 120 person payroll...There are that many
playing that really shouldn't be there as far as I'm concerned...The first
to go would probably be the fighters though.
