Default Why don't you guys sign Messier?

I really hate to say it, because Messier was and still is my favorite
player, but I really feel that he wouldn't be able to keep up on this
team. Yes he would bring leadership and more than enough experience to
the team, but he was supposed to do that with the Canucks and the
Rangers his second go around. I do think he helped the young Vancouver
players (Naslund, Jovo, Bertuzzi), but in New York he hasn't done much.
I hope he signs with the Rangers again for one year, passes Howe on
the points list, and retires after this season.

Oh I think we're going to.

for the outdoor ALUMNI GAME!

Mark Messier, if he hasn't already, will, this year begin embarassing
himself - good for him though, if someone is stupid enough to pay a
middle aged man millions of dollars to play a boy's game, why not?

I think Mess could be a second line centre on this team, cus does anyone
think Horcoff is ready? Give the guy a one year contract(hopefully cheap
cus old) to allow Horcoff to develope, as too many young players buckle
under 'the problem with this team is no second line scoring' routine.

When Mess is hurt or tired then Horc will fill in and get some experience,
but the pressure will not be the same.

Actually, the above applies to Oates.

For the above to happen it have to be below the average salary, otherwise
Jussi gone for nothing.

Well said. I did notice Horcoff has already been in the doghouse already,
but not to the point that it ruined his confidence. Next year will be
interesting, since there are not any centreman with 200 games in. Hope a
few players break through right away. I think Chimera might be the surprise
player if matched with Dvorak (to much speed? no just right).

It would be cool to see an old warhouse for one year, mostly because I have
his rookie card and need it up in value

Anyway, I'm done. Enjoy your group.

Primarily by The Happy Sucker...he can sure pick'em.

This dog suffers from distemper. Shoot him.

Sure they have the money for more than that as we witnessed last year
with Flopita. However, The building is full...they don't need the
hype of that guy so why bother.

No, the oilers would rather focus on marketing...case in point
oilerisation was a gimmick to keep the sports pages filled and
recently more of the pathetic hockey in a football stadium crap (with
Propaganda Minister LaForge decked out in an oilers jersey wearing
shades...ooh how cool! rofl)

Develop into what? a secure spot somewhere in the nhl? That doesn't
say much when you look at the players around the league. Reasoner
developed because he realized NOBODY else wanted him after clearing
waivers. Now what is he going to do after establishing himself last
year? I't wouldn't surprise me in the least if he becomes the new
Cleary.

Reminds me of the 'development' of Matts Lindgren who is still in the
league.

<Hilarious and well-put post snipped for sake of brevity>

Chad, this was a good post, but you gotta understand that guys like Mario
are under the delusion that the Oilers should be able to make real waves in
the playoffs despite the fact that almost every year they're forced to
develop young players because they couldn't afford to pay the ones that turn
into even pseudo-stars. This is the same delusion that causes him and
others that think like him to whine and bitch throughout the year about how
"Lowe and his henchman MacTavish" are running the Oilers into the ground.
Once they realize exactly what is fueling success in the NHL these days
(here's a free hint: M-O-N-E-Y), then they'll come around. I like your idea
about Messier just because his experience would help make the learning curve
for the rest of the team a lot less steep, but I can't see the Oilers paying
even 1 million US for his services, much less Messier agreeing to play for
so little rather than retiring (finally).
