Default Eli Manning a Flop?

How many people believe that Eli Manning will be a flop?
It always seems that the best quarter back in the draft is usually a flop.
Not saying that will be the case but I think he may choke under all the
pressure I mean the Giants are expecting great things from him especially
after everything they gave away to get him. And Dont forget about the New
York fans that will not be an easy crowd to play infront of. I doubt he get
up to the level of his brothers play.

I don't know if he'll flop. however, I will say that his name and the
success of his brother and father have a lot to do with his being the #1
ranked QB in this draft. His numbers (apprx #17 in the nation), his flops
in big games for Ole Miss and his reticence over where he;d played all
indicate someone IMO who's head is bigger than his game.
He may turn out to be a great QB, but there is defnitely the potential for
him to struggle. And frankly, if he struggles, I believe many people would
categorise him as flop far more quickly than say Rivers or Rothlisberger,
because the expectations with him are so much higher. Particularly since
Peyton came into the league, started almost immediately, and has been
relatively successful from day one.

I think within a short time Eli will be just as big a star as his brother; I've
been hearing that Eli would be a bigger talent than his brother since Eli was a
sophmore in high school. Based on the track record of Archie and Peyton being
great QB's, I think Eli is a lead-pipe cinch. He was worth everything the
Giants gave up to get him..

Will Eli Manning be a flop My answer is yes after all what have anyone
in his family done. Archie is a hall of famer that never won a playoff
game, I missed the first half of his career but he was never great
probably would of been a backup on some teams. Now Peyton is another
story he played in a playoff game so that makes him great all of a
sudden I think the whole play calling thing at the line is a joke and
only throws off his teamates after all marvin harrison doesnt even
bother looking at peyton

Almost every team Archie played on was terrible, he never had even
moderate talent surrounding him. He never won a playoff game because
no team he played on made the playoffs!

Did you actually ever see Archie play?

He never played on a team that finished above .500, and only once played on a
..500 team (the 1979 Saints were 8-8). Even when he won the NFC Player of the
Year award in 78, the Saints were 7-9. And he is not a HOFer.

Archie would have been one of the all time greats if he had gone to a team who
was really interested in trying to be successful. Most expansion teams take
3-5 years to shed the expansion label; before they have the talent to be an
average NFL team. It took the Saints 21 seasons before they had their first
above .500 season; a lot of this was due to the original ownership and upper
management of the Saints who seemed perpetually inept. When Tom Benson bought
the team the fortunes of the organization began to change; he brought in Jim
Mora and the team became sucessful in short order.

I expect he will struggle in his first
year with the Giants as he gets used
to the NFL style of play. I wouldn't
pass judgment on his career until he has
been in the league a few years at least.

And more importantly he hired Jim Finks as the general manager. Finks had
the ability to actually evaluate talent, therefore putting the right people
on the field to make the team successful.

I forgot about Finks. At one point he was considered a possible successor to
Pete Rozelle as NFL Commissioner.

Ah yes good point on the HOF thing and you're right about him never
playing on a team that finished above .500.

Amen to that!! The argument was made back in the early 80s that if for
example he'd played for the Cowboys instead he would have made it in the HOF.

Yeah they really were. I'll never forget when they fired Tom Fears.
Their first game with the new coach was the game where Dempsey kicked
that 63 yarder to win the game. And also as someone else mentioned
they borught in Jim Finks. Unfortunately after Finks died, the team
went to crap in a short manner.
