I didn't see any comments from the PC crowd, only mine.
BTW, I did NOT equate prejudice with racism; they may overlap, but they're different phenomena. True, but my point was that you were critical of *Asian* culture while Michelle Wie is a product of Asian *American* culture (which, BTW, may just produce more people who do things without due regard for whether their actions will bother others). I've lived in both Asian and American cultures. Yeah, I guess the school I graduated from has plummeted down from where it was when I graduated, but in 2000 US News and World Report still ranked it #1 in the US. Obviously that could be disputed--and has been--but somebody out there still likes us. I just wish they could get a winning football team again. :-) Even my last graduate school ain't all that bad. And they consistently have good football teams. Yep, that's sort of what I was saying. And those you mention *are* Asian, and might be expected to have Asian cultural traits, whereas MW is Asian American, a quite different culture. She's also a very young ****ager, a culture sui generis. -- Don donkirk@covad.net |

Thanks for pinning this down. I'd thought her background was Chinese
(American); only yesterday I was argu^H^H^H discussing this with my wife, and you've saved me from future bumps and bruises. :-) -- Don donkirk@covad.net |
