So, whom do we root for. Emotionally I wanna root for the Twins, but since
we don't play them any more and they've the easier schedule, ought we root
for the sox?

In article <dimpledc-F3C18C.19432107092003@news.fu-berlin.de>,
dimpledc@hotmail.com says...

You know, that's a darn good question, Chad, but since I wouldn't be
entirely upset were US Cellular to burn to the ground (empty, of course)
and the White Sux be disbanded, I can't bring myself to root for them.
If the Royals can't win the division, I'll take the Twins, thanks.

I'm rooting for a 2-2 split, combined with the Royals sweeping the Indians,
which would put us only 1.5 games back. If either team wins 3 of 4 and we
sweep, we'll be behind the division leader 2.5 games and .5 games of the 2nd
place team, which might also be tolerable.

If the Royals don't win it I'd like the White Sox to; for my Dad's sake. He
grew up less than a mile from the park, worked there when he was a kid (so
did my grandmother!) and is obviously a big White Sox fan. They have only
been to the Series once in his lifetime (in '59 against the Dodgers) and
that team was the only one to ever win the first two on the road and then
lose the series in 4 straight. I've gotten to see the Royals go to the World
Series twice and win it once. I'd like it if he got the same opportunity.

Nice... first person I've seen say they'd rather if the white sox won

Minnesota's been dominating the division for years now, wouldn't you rather
a new winner if it wasn't yourselves (Royals)?

Personally I don't want to see the twins win either way... JD

On 08 Sep 2003, JD opined:

*smile* Hiya JD.

Well, I dunno. The Sox *should* win it; they've the talent (and, really, the
money) to do it. There's something about this bunch this year though that
really grates with me. I think I'm too young to have huge amounts of desire
that a particular team *not* win it, but I'm leaning towards hopeing Chicago
falters in the last week (this assumes the Royals don't reach the top, which
is of course desire numero uno).

<snip>

The pitching is crazy right now... Voyles and Wright, I didn't know either
of those guys.

Injuries, especially to pitching makes it VERY difficult.

No kiddin. The bane of our season, really. I'm praying for stability until
Lima and Ascenzio get back, and hoping that they are back to original form.

But heck, I can see May, Anderson, Abbott each have good outings from here
on out, and maybe even Gobble steping it up a notch. Voyles, well, he
surprised me his first outting back, but I'm not betting on him yet. I
know next to nothing about Wright.

Yeah. I feel it. Urp.
But it *can* happen. Please please please please please.... &c.

BTW, our pitching staff (pen, mostly) blew three games we really shoulda
won in the past week. We'd be closer had it not been for them (two by
grimsley, one by Affeldt)....

Hey, we gained a 1/2 game on the Twins! Not bad for a night off...

Bad news is that the sox went up a 1/2 game.

Sox --
Twins 1
Royals 3 1/2.
