Default Vin Scully

I doubt this is going to go over very well in this newsgroup but I'll ask it
anyway...

Any idea when Vin Scully may retire? Has he made any indications? I honestly
(and am not saying this to start anything here, I am just being honest)
cannot watch Dodger games with him calling the game! I just find him so
boring that I almost fall asleep every time.

Again, sorry. I know how much he is revered in SoCal and I am not trying to
inflame anyone. I am just being honest. I would love to follow the Dodgers
and watch them more frequently than I do...I just find Scully's announcing
to be tedious.

HAS he made any indication of when he might retire? Anybody know?

In article <MsMOa.46192$JY1.24190@nwrddc01.gnilink.net>, "Jay" says...

when they pry his cold, dead fingers from around the microphone.

you would prefer, say, joe morgan and his 3 hour tributes to willie
mays?

Miller/Morgan are the absolute worst. Worse than Howard Cosell and Curt
Gowdy and Tony Kubek.

You like them because they are always talking about Barry Bonds or Willie
Mays or garlic fries or McCovey ****ing cove.

Those jerks HATE the Dodgers.

It's amazing how his voice sounds ageless. I've quit listening to the
Dodgers and not because of Vin....I'm tired of all the apologies for
Green. Beltre, and Jordan. Adrian has no ****ing clue what the strike
zone is, and Jordan must have been corking his bat.....with
shit..there's no pop..he's strictly a singles hitter. Green and Nomo
were born without a personality..at least Nomo is doing his job...Green
looks so lost...I don't see him doing much the rest of the year.

I haven't heard Vin say for some time" he's an old egg an butter man" I
like those sayings and stories about Sandy Koufax and Don Drysdale....a
little more interesting than the current malaise...JV

I enjoy Miller's sense of humor, and Morgan's knowledge
of the game; I know Ross :Porter is highly regarded as a
Dodger booster, but I can't stand his mush-mouthed delivery.

Miller has a great broadcast voice, that's why he's there. It's like Keith
Jackson who knew very little about baseball, but was a pleasure to listen to
(Howard Cosell knew NOTHING about baseball, NOR was he a pleasure to listen
to). The absolute worst of the current day crop of announcers though has to
be Tim McCarver. His explanations and criticisms are so convoluted it's
amazing that anyone would want to emplyoee him as an announcer.

I grew up listening to the likes of Mel Alan, Red Barber (hated them both),
Marv Albert (my personal favorite for all time best announcer in any sport)
and a host of other NY and network announcers which most of you remember. As
I said before, I liked Scully when he was with NBC, and now that I live in
LA I know how much people here love him. I guess it's personal taste, but I
just don't!

Krukow is hilarious. I love his laid-back ness and his sense of humor. He
reminds me of an older Tom Tolbert (Former NBA player), who does radio stuff
for KNBR.

I know it mixes sports, but a Tolbert/Krukow combo would probably beat out
leno AND Letterman.

Vin Scully is an icon. Even my Microsoft Baseball 98 is narrated by Scully
(who does go off on tangents in that simulation as well)

I heard some college baseball broadcast some years ago, and the college kid
calling the game on the radio was doing a dead-on Scully impersonation for
the entire game. It was hilarious. Miller's Scully impression is awesome
too.

Funny how you complain about Vin Scully, because all
the time I wish we had someone as understandable as him.

I listen to the San Diego games, and this Ted Leitner
announcer. He is a cross between Richard Simmons' voice,
with the sarcasm of Robin Williams. Truely intolerable.

The TV shows with Matt Vasgersian good, when
Mark Grant and Rick Sutcliffe are off sick.

So we go to the Mariners/Padres game and get great infield seats.
And some fat lady in front of me stands up immediately before
Ichiro hits, and immediately before the next hit, to re-arrange
her tray of food.

Everything is so *****ng annoying.
