Shaq & Bibby, you are selfish.
I agree about the coach. First off, he would not acknowledge the lack of a
consistent three point shooter as a weakness. Yet the only game they won
definitively from start to finish was one where Marbury was dialing from
long distance. Secondly, he could not adapt to the International Game
which shows he did not study up on it, meaning therefore that even he
lacked preparation. But no one wants to blame Larry Brown nor insinuate
that he may be an overrated coach (very good coach, but not as great as
many proclaim him). He's a great teacher, but that doesn't make a great
coach. He lacks something, which is why it took him forever to win his
first and probably only Championship.
The selection of this team was awfully bad. They chose among the best
players, but they did not choose wisely. They chose the best at each
position, but in the NBA right now, the best aren't necessarily great
3-point shooters. That's why they need to select a team with great
balance. Richard Jefferson has no business in the Olympics. The only
reason he's ANY good is because of one thing: Jason Kidd. All he can do is
flashy dunks. He couldn't hit a mid-range shot to save his life. So forget
3s. There's probably more NBA players than just the "elite." In fact, many
of these 2nd and 3rd tier players would love to represent their country
and because of their basketball intelligence, not their overpowering
ability, can make a greater impact. The selection committee has to pick
more team players and more 3 point shooters.
