You've got to have guys that want it," O'Neal said of the misery he endured
last June. "Detroit was not a better team than we were; they wanted it more.
They played like a team."

For once Shaq almost got it right.

The lakers wanted it too, but the selfishness of some, the legal
problems of Kobe, the childishness of Kobe and Shaq, and the injuries,
not to mention the physical play of the Pistons that was labeled as
"good defense", did the damage.

I think the Lakers walked into the finals as if they owned it. They got
beat game 1 and thought it was a fluke, they barely escaped game 2 and still
carried themselves as if they have nothing to worry about. By the time it
was obvious a different mindset was needed, Karl Malone had a torn knee, and
Detroit had all the confidence and momentum in the world. Whether or not
that means LA was a better team I'm not sure, but they lost the series
because of mentality.

That wasn't "good defense", it was _historic_ defense. The Lakers had
never seen anything like it, but then, neither had the rest of the
league.

Obviously the Lakers had more talent than Detroit

but

Detroit definitely had the better team

and

It wasn't even close, as indicated by the outcomes of the games and the
series

But Hey - Shaq is on the "Best Interview" Team!

And if you don't believe it, then you must have been watching Pistons'
games with a blind eye.
