Payton Says He'd Fit in With Lakers
And that's the important thing. He's getting his market value salary. The
Bucks made an offer and the Mavs made another and the Bucks matched it. That's
called negotiations. Every team tries to get a player for less than they're
worth and every player tries to get paid more than they're worth. That's called
negotiations.
Redd strikes me as a pretty intelligent guy, so he's probably smart enough
to realize that when push came to shove, the Bucks showed what they thought of
him by matching the Mavs' offer sheet. That told him all he needed to know. The
Bucks did appreciate his talent and did want to keep him around as a part of
their future plans. And given the fact they, as you said, saved a roster spot
for him during his rookie year when they had no interest in playing him, also
says a lot about how much they value him and his talent.
Once again, there is absolutely no evidence of any kind that in any way
suggests Michael Redd has any hard feelings toward the Bucks about what
happened last summer in his contract negotiations. And if he is the intelligent
person he strikes me as being, he won't have any reason to be upset because
when it was all said and done, the Bucks made a strong statement about how
valuable they consider him to be.
The best part of all is Redd then went out and proved the Bucks had spent
their money wisely. This kid's a player.
