AL roundup: Rangers Rogers is first 8-game winner
Associated Press
May 31, 2004AL31

TORONTO -- Kenny Rogers became the first eight-game winner in the major
leagues despite walking seven, and the Texas Rangers beat the Toronto
Blue Jays 4-2 Sunday and stopped a four-game losing streak.

Rogers, who was 13-8 for the Twins last season, won his fourth
consecutive start, giving up one run -- it was unearned -- and six hits
in 5 1/3 innings. The walks were one shy of his career high.

Rogers, off to the best start of his major league career, has won six
times following Texas losses. He escaped a pair of bases-loaded jams,
and the Blue Jays tied a season high by stranding 14.

Francisco Cordero pitched two innings for his 16th save in 16 chances.
The loss ended Toronto's five-game winning streak.
