Mauer is very doubtful to return this season. Everything I've heard and read points to Mauer not being able to play the position this season. If he does come back, it'll only be as a DH or pinch hitter. Blanco has been a real surprise, and asset, this season, and LeCroy has been adequate, yet very underwhelming, at the position. The Twins need a little more assurance than that going into the final stretch and into the playoffs. Borders gives them that. Sure, he's 41 years old and no real prize, but he does have that veteran experience (with some decent playoff experience) so he should do just fine as the Twins #2 catcher. I was glad to hear about the Borders signing...almost as happy as I was to hear that they finally brought Kubel up and that he will be eligible for postseason play if things work out. The kid can hit. |
