Default torri puck comparison

I was bored so I called up career stats

Puck 11 years retired hall of fame two world series
obp .360 slg .477 life avg. 318 HR 18 per year avg fielding .989 (hall of fame)

Hunter 6+ years and counting
obp .316 slg .450 avg. .266 HR 14 per year avg fielding .992 (6+ years)

Puck had better dynamism and the two World Series and that game 6....oh that
game 6. Sigh.

On 31 May 2004 03:34:41 -0700 Andy opened up that worthless piehole and
remarked:

Puckett also lived in an offensive depressed area. Puckett may be overated, but
he is lightyears ahead of Hunter.

Puckett, including his decline (short decline) was 24% better than your average
MLB major leaguer. Hunter us actually below average for his ccareer (though just
starting his plateau) and a single year as good as Puckett's career average OPS+

Puckett had a number of MVP quality seasons. Hunter has never even been "great"
in his league and never been higher than 9th in anything useful (and that is SB)

freudian slip? the offense in the twin cities area was just fine for the
first half of puck's career... but took a nosedive toward the end... ;-)

Puckett may be overated, but

yeah i think it's safe to say that he's probably a borderline HOF player and
should consider himslef *very* lucky to be a 1st ballot inductee.

is SB)

it's funny how in baseball there is seemingly a very small difference
between "average" and "Great" but it is that apparently small difference
that is really where games are won and lost.

era. Late 80s, early 90s.

Especially in light of it was his image which filled out a lot of those ballots
and it has since gone semi-sour.

There is a much larger difference between average and "****" and FAR more games
are lost because a team won't upgrade. Look at Detroit and Milwaukee. No one is
great, but they have far fewer blackholes, and are winning a ton more games.

Or for the reverse, look at what hte Royals were last year compared to this
year.

just playin! ;-)

i wonder if all the bad PR would've cost him his induction. his timing, as
it were, was as usual impeccable.

games.

exactly, and that's a fundamental thing people don't understand about
production in sports (i think the same holds true in basketball, for
instance).

people love to complain about player X making "Way too much money" because
after all, he's only 30 points better in BA and only hits twice as many HRs
as player Y, yet he's making 5 times the money. this ignores the fact that
production value is exponential.

they have more black holes? isn't it just their pitching regressing to the
mean?
