Default Terrible 3rd jerseys *everywhere*!

I THOUGHT that there was that whole rule about how home teams always wore
dark so that traveling teams would only have to bring one jersey with them.
But I just turned on the Det-Mtl game and Montreal is wearing white third
jerseys at home. What's that about?

The home/away jersey rule is more of a suggestion that the league expects
teams to take very seriously if you get my drift. Basically, the home team
can choose whichever jersey they want provided they give the visiting team I
think it is 48 hours notice. The visiting team can then wear whichever
jersey they choose provided the colors are not predominantly similar. Case
in point, IIRC the Canadiens and Rangers both wear their road jerseys in the
Hab's season opener last year, and it was cool because the Rangers wear
blue, and the Habs red.

The Habs aren't wearing a third jersey. They are wearing a vintage jersey, a
bunch of other teams are also wearing them this year for very few games (i
believe that the Habs are only wearing them like 6 times).

Check http://www.nhluniforms.com for all the info. Do your homework people!

Detroit got a special exemption so they could be in mourning over Hatcher.

I would suggest you do your homework. Technically, the NHL considers it a
third or 'alternate' jersey in their official language. The team calls it a
vintage jersey because (understandably) most Habs fans would riot like it
was '55 again if they called it a third jersey or used a new design. Now
wether or not it is based on an old design, it still falls under all of the
jersey rules. 48 hour pre-notification, and it has to have the name on the
back and numbers on the back and sleeves (that is NHLPA IIRC). Second, if
you bothered to compare the pictures of the unis the Habs wore tonight to
what is on nhluniforms.com you'd see there are differences and if you
bothered to read what nhluniforms said on their site, you'd know that even
they didn't know what the jerseys would look like and were basing their
pictures off of what they considered educated guesses.

Yes but these jerseys are part of the Vintage Jersey program (hence the V
patch) and not a standard third jersey.

As stated before (and yes I read the site) the vintage jerseys are only
being worn a few times in the season as opposed to a 'regular' third jersey
which makes maybe 15-20 appearances.

And no the jerseys are not *exactly* the same as work in the past but they
are based on a previous design rather than having a snowman riding a dragon
or some such garbage that has been showing up in other third jerseys lately.

You guys are splitting hairs. They're a vintage jersey, because they are
based almost exactly on the design for '44 or whenever, and they are a 3rd
jersey, because they are wearing three different jerseys this season, so
obviously one of them becomes the "3rd" jersey. So, you're both right.

The question is, will the Habs continue to use this jersey in upcoming
seasons, or will this be the only season for this jersey?

As an aside, people should remember the Habs used a classic 3rd jersey a
few years ago during the NHL 75th celebrations. However, the thing was that
it looked so much like the original uniform, you couldn't really tell the
difference. They were the red jerseys, and the differences were limited to
a slightly different sized logo, a slightly brighter red, and a little less
blue, I think.

Anyway, I like this jersey, and I hope they keep it around. Non-Hab fans
tend to give it the ****** up as well, which is a good test for a jersey,
because some Hab fans are so resistant anything different, that nothing
would satisfy. Also, keep in mind the fact is that THIS uniform was the
original white uniform, so the white uniform we've seen lately is actually
the basterdization of the 'vintage" uniform!
