Default Finally some respect for Devils/Brodeur

If you haven't purchased the Hockey News: The best of everything in
Hockey --magazine, get it.
For those who don't know a bunch of writers vote for best goalie, d-man
etc.

Martin cleaned up in the best goalie award with 195 points. Number 2 with
53- Jiggy, that punk motha' Hasek 39.
Marty also got number one in big game player, as well as a "crystal ball"
stat projection which has him breaking all records. (and it's a conservative
estimate believe me.)

Scott Stevens gets best Defenseman as well.
Best view in an arena- NJ.
The Devils are finally getting the respect they are due.
Of course Martin had to stomp through walls to do it.
They have the best Devils first and second teams (which I don't agree with)
especially with Terreri the number 2 goalie. All in all though, it's nice to
see reality finally come to the hockey world.

Also I picked up a giant book called "Total Hockey" which has everything in
it (up till 2000) it was in the bargain bin at Border's for 5.95! less than
the magazine.
Martin is mentioned in there for revolutionizing the game with his puck
handling ability. (anyone else notice the poke checks he has done recently,
not too mention he has been scrumming as well).

Ok, you've already said that you only know the Devils of the past 6 years or
so right? All of those years Brodeur was the starting goalie correct? You've
said that you never saw Terreri in his prime right? Who exactly would you
deign to put in Terreri's place as the number 2 best goalie in Devils
history especially given that Terreri holds second place in virtually every
goaltending record in Devils history? Who would you pick?

Couldn't care less anymore. All these years they slighted the Devils
and deliberately wouldn't put hardly any Devils on top of anything.
Now they are doing it. Why? Who cares. If the Devils defend the
title again will they finally get on the cover of Sports Illustrated?
No.

Jeez, what is this hate you have for Terreri? I swear sometimes I think
you're obsessed with him. You never saw him play in his prime so give it up.

I think the question is second best Devils goalie, not second best goalie to
ever play as a Devil

Certainly none of those you mentioned were better as Devils that Terreri... The
only ones who played regularly for the Devils were Resch and Burke. Resch was
at the later stages of a very good career. Burke has a great playoff run in
'88, but otherwise didn't shine as a Devil.

Dunham never played much, nor did Vanbiesbrouck (sp?). Schwab takes almost
never playing to a new level.

Even if you are comparing careers, when you evaluate the goalies versus their
peers, I think Terreri was at *least* (I think better than) the equivalent of
Dunham and Schwab (Schwab never really earned a full-time job for a long period
of time, anywhere). Even Vanbiesbrouck was often considered, at best, a #1A
goalie by most of his clubs.

Much as I like seeing Marty getting his due, having Giggy second pretty
much invalidates this list to me. I couldn't care less about the CS
trophy...but Best Goalie? Come on...basically, this guys career is total
mediocrity, split up by one good half season, and a nice playoff run. Give
me a break. Put in some time, alright?

I still don't get this. The fact that you never saw him play as the Devils
#1 goalie especially.

DUNHAM? Holy shit. What do you base that on? What has he ever done?
Schwab? I'm sorry, has he _ever_ been a #1 goalie _anywhere?_

And one note -

HE TOOK THE #1 JOB AWAY FROM SEAN BURKE! WHAT DOES THAT TELL YOU?!?!?!?

First of all, Dunham is still not better than Chris Terreri's best years
which you have never seen. Burke was traded because Terreri outplayed him
and made him expendable. Vanbiesbrouck played all of 9 games as a Devil.
Thats like saying Tikkanen and Housley should be on our best wingers and
defenseman list. Schwab? Do you know what Schwab was like in his first go as
a Devil? He's played well in the last season and a game, but enough to say
he's better than Terreri? The guy who was the Devils only prayer at a win
for 2 and a half seasons? Resch is the only guy there is even a remote
argument for and even he never proved himself better than Terreri's best
years for the Devils.
