Default Expand playoffs to 8 seeds!

If I was the NFL Commissioner I'd propose expanding to 4 wild cards per
conference (total 8 seeds per conference). This would assure that half of
all the teams make it into the playoffs. This will also create the
possibility for the first time in NFL history that an entire division from
each conference can make it into the playoffs! All teams play on week one.
All wild card teams play away games on week one. Half of the remaining teams
survive to play another week.

Playoffs Week 1: 16 teams play
Playoffs Week 2: 8 teams play
Playoffs Week 3: 4 teams play
Super Bowl: 2 teams play

Let's expand it to 15 per conference. The 16th going to the toilet bowl
to play the AFC's 16th seed.

I usually agree with you, but I can't on this one.

Since we're going to the big dance next year, I want as few teams as
possible in the way to our trip to the Superbowl in Jacksonville.

shouldn't playoffs be limited to teams with winning records over 500%,
at least 9-7 or better? the playoff format might vary on the number of
teams with winning records.

Default Expand playoffs to 8 seeds!

Andy,
I thought about the same thing too - of expanding the playoffs. I have even
thought about giving all the division-champions a bye-week and only have 8
wildcard teams play against each other in the first week of the playoffs.
Afterwards, we'd have the 4 wildcard teams play the #1 & 2 seeded teams and
the #3 & 4 play each other. However, I believe, the difference between a #1
seed and a wildcard team is too slim of a difference and therefore it just
doesn't make sense to me because the division-champions and the #2 seeded
teams should be rewarded with a bye-week to keep the possibility of a #1 or
2 seeded team from being eliminated in the first week of the playoffs.
Therefore, I believe 16 teams would be too many for the playoffs. The 8
Conference Champions and 4 wild card teams is just right for the number of
teams in the NFL for the playoffs and a Super Bowl at this time. I believe
today's playoff system seems to be the fairest. However, if 8 more teams
were added to the NFL (not likely in our lifetime) then I believe your idea
would probably be better.

Keep it the way it is. If expanded it would be too much like hockey playoffs
where the season really doesn't mean a thing.
