Someone take me to whoever is responsible for that piece of crap movie,
"The Pirates of the Caribbean", I want an explanation about how this
thing got financing.

God what a BORING movie. I downloaded it, watched it and had to fight my
eyelids from closing.

Last night we went to the drive-in....POTC was the 2nd movie of the
double-header. I thought, ok, maybe it was the shit quality of the
pirated pirate movie that tainted my opinion of it....now I'll see it on
a HUGE screen and since I paid for it my conscience will be clean...so
maybe there's a chance it wasn't so bad the first time around. Well, it
still ****ed.

Was this supposed to be an action movie? If it was, it surely wasn't
exciting (or even suspenseful). Most of the action was in the dark so you
couldn't really see what was going on, just alot of cannon fire and shit
blowing up. I'm sure it wasn't meant to be any sort of a comedy though
there were a few (probably exactly 3) laughs in it.

The acting wasn't terrible, though Johnny Depp looked like he was more
interested in cornholing his former boatmate's son than the governor's
daughter. The special effects, nothing to write home about either.

Just a snooze. I didn't feel bad when we left with about 30 minutes left.
Not because I'd already seen the ending, but who with any sort of brain
didn't know exactly what was gonna happen?

I'm as big a fan of mindless crap as anyone, but this mindless crap
wasn't even interesting.

Maybe it'll be better on DVD, at least there will be surround sound
unlike the drive-in (which I admit is not the preferred mode of seeing
the quality of a movie).


Oh, and while I'm on it, a word about the drive-in. Nice nostalgic
experience but there are nearly as many morons there as there are in a
theater. We had fidgety idiots accidentally pulling back on the turn-
signal lever activating the flash to pass function (which I wouldn't
really expect to work with the car not running) and also same fidgety
persons accidentally hitting the panic button on their key chain setting
their car alarm off (which interestingly enough took them quite a while
to figure out how to turn off)

Hehe, jeez, I hope the kids weren't watching. Both movies (first was Spy
Kids 3D) were sort of aimed at kids and there were plenty of them running
around...

Well, mine's only one opinion (and it looks like I'm in the minority). I
looked up the flick on IMDB and it seems everyone really seems to like
it. The reviews basically say take it for what it's worth (most mention
what a great job Depp did, and I'd agree on that much).

The one thing I found completely dumb was the 2 head pirates fighting
each other (presumably to the death) when in fact neither of them could
die due to the curse. Doh...

And it was wayyyyyy long, almost 2.5 hours I think.


I think Lisa and a few others might have discussed this one right after
it came out, and if I remember right, they all liked it as well.

The thing that makes me laugh is the tie-in to the McDonald's advertising.
Usually it's something relatively obvious, they put some kinda space toys in
the Happy Meals or something to that effect. The whole idea behind
cross-promotion was that two marketing campaigns were to be inter-related in
order to produce better marketing impact.

I have no idea what Big Mac's have to do with Pirates and it's obvious that
neither does McDonald's.

Back in the pre-refridgeration days of pirating, pirates would go for weeks
on end without ever seeing land, sometimes even months. The Irish members
on board began a saying about having a Big-MAC attack. Anyhoo, the word
"MAC" comes from a spanish derivation of Carne or meat, whereas MAC is an
accronym for Meat Almost Carne. So the Big Mac is kind of a play on words.
Anyway, once someone yelled "LAND HO" that means they spotted land, but
might be hours from actually landing, so they celebrated tremendously
drinking up everything in site with the knowledge that they could fully
restock everything on board and most importantly they would be able to sink
their teeth in some meat and relieve there "Big Mac Attacks". Well all this
partying and drinking can only result in one thing...yup, you guessed it,
the golden arches as the ship mates relieved themselves. It was an Irish
Pirate named Captain Donald who saw the potential in this and adopted the
name "MacDonald" then introduced the Big Mac sandwich available only under
the golden arches. So you see there really is a connection to pirating and
the Big Mac.
