Default Bye Bye Sabas

KOIN TV reported that Sabas is not returning to Portland this season. Kinda
****s, I always enjoyed watching him play. Hopefully the Blazers can find a
decent center before the season starts.

If 'Sheed stays he can play Sabas' minutes at center which would give Zach
more PT.

Knowing Sabas he may change his mind again. They have to trade his contract
or waive him but they will have the MLE and have months to talk to him.

He can shoot outside, he can score inside,
and he can make passes, I'm not talking passes

that's the easy pass. I'm talking about
guys cutting in traffic, making a great
bounce pass for the score.
He has a real good feel for the game,
the whole game, and you can't teach that."

Do the Blazers still have rights to him? How about
you guys waive him so that we can sign him in L.A.? I'd
hate to see Sabas' NBA career end without a ring..... :-)

I'm sure he is done with the NBA. I think he is staying put in his home
country.

They will have to waive him or trade his contract by I think by Friday or
his contract becomes guarnteed.
But they likely were going to anyway and offer him the mid-level instead.
He will likely not go to LA for the veterans expection, he would not last
year when it was offered. He is turning down 7 mil in Portland.
If he changes his mind about the NBA he would likely return to Portland and
the Blazers can use their MLE for him.

His family stayed in europe last year and do not want to move here again.
His boys go to a special school in Spain where one of the the main subjects
is basketball. It is affiliated with a team.
The oldest Zigimantas was 5-4 at age 10 and his brother Tautvidas was 5-2
at age 9 and the youngest Pomas was 4-10 at age 5.

If this is indeed the end of the road for Sabonis, I can only say that
I truly wish he could have played in the NBA before his knees gave
out. Even gimpy, Sabonis was *fun* to watch. A center who could
block shots, box out, rebound, score inside, score outside and
pass...such an excellent player. I've seen some scratchy video of
Sabas playing in Europe. That player would have been All-NBA for as
long as he was healthy. It says a lot that he's still a wanted
commodity even in his current condition. Even though he is now a
liability in open-floor play, the rest of his game definitely
compensates.

Also, he's responsible for one of the greatest SportsCenter lines:
"He's not my Vydas, he's not your Vydas, he's Arvydas." :-)
